Directive 2006/66/EC of 6 September 2006 on batteries and accumulators and waste batteries and accumulators and repealing Directive (91/157/EEC)
Batteries have been identified by the EU as a priority waste stream needing action to lessen their impact on the environment. As a result a new Battery Directive came into force on 6 September 2006.
This Directive aims to reduce the environmental impact of the manufacture, distribution, use and disposal and recovery of batteries. it will reduce the quantity of hazardous and non-hazardous waste batteries going to landfill and increase the recycling of the materials they contain.
Daniamant have discussed our position in conjunction with the Environment Agency and our position is as follows:
1.) Daniamant is not classed as a producer for the majority of its products as the batteries we use are imported into the UK by other major battery suppliers, therefore we have no producer responsibilities under the Battery Regulations.
2.) Daniamant use a small amount of batteries from outside the UK and Denmark which are classed as industrial batteries and accordingly we have registered as an Industrial Battery producer with the Secretary of State (Daniamant UK Battery Producer Registration Number: BPRN01182). Daniamant has no obligation to join a Battery Compliance Scheme as an industrial producer.
